Meet Maria.
Hi, I’m Maria — it’s so nice to meet you. I’m a CPA, a wife to my high school sweetheart Rich, a mom of four amazing (and wild) kids, and someone who genuinely believes government can work well for the people it serves.
For more than a decade, I’ve led the Beaufort County Treasurer’s Office with a simple conviction: we don’t have to accept broken systems or low expectations.
Together, my team and I have built an office that defies the government stereotype — and the results speak for themselves.

Beaufort County isn’t just where I work — it’s where we’re raising our family. Being your Treasurer gives me the privilege of showing my children what engaged citizenship and meaningful public service look like in real life.
This community has given us so much, and serving it well is both my responsibility and my honor.

I believe leadership isn’t reserved for titles — everyone is a leader. Through clear values, trust, and accountability, I’ve built a team that collaborates openly, solves problems creatively, and takes ownership of the work we do for taxpayers.
That culture has allowed us to tackle challenges other offices couldn’t — and to do it with consistency, professionalism, and care.
Making Government Understandable.
Taxes and fun don’t usually belong in the same sentence — but when you love your work, you find ways to connect. I care deeply about helping people understand how government works, especially our kids.
That’s why I created an interactive property tax game and visit classrooms across the county — teaching financial literacy in a way that’s engaging, memorable, and yes, sometimes involves candy getting taxed.

I’ve always believed that improvement isn’t optional — it’s the responsibility of leadership. That mindset has driven every decision I’ve made as Treasurer and shaped an office recognized locally, statewide, and nationally for excellence.
